In 2020, Royal Mencap Society was one of four consortia, including Be Well Learning, contracted by NHS England to develop, design, and roll out The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Learning Disability and Autism Training Trials.
During the training trials, Be Well delivered Tier 1 and Tier 2 sessions from August 2021 to July 2022, recruiting over 800 participants for evaluation.
The Oliver McGowan training trials were co-delivered by an autistic co-trainer and a co-trainer with a learning disability. Be Well Learning was responsible for developing the experts with lived experience who co-delivered the training.
Our face-to-face training modules were highly rated in the National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi) training trial evaluation report. As a result, NHS England commissioned Mencap, National Autistic Society, and Be Well Learning in 2022 to design the final Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training package and the 4-day lead trainer programme, to initiate the national roll-out across England.
Be Well was also commissioned to design the 3-day Tier 2 Oliver McGowan course to train expert co-trainers with a learning disability. This course was approved by NHS England.
Be Well was commissioned by NHS Cheshire and Merseyside ICB to deliver the following Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training courses across the Cheshire and Merseyside area:
